I’m glad to see my friend and client Robin Raphel getting some justice in this WSJ feature story after the FBI and DOJ went after her for doing her job as one of the top experts and diplomats dealing with Pakistan. I fear we’re entering an era where old-school diplomacy is even more of a lost art than it already is.
My only wish for this story would be that it had gone into more depth about how the FBI tried to use the media, particularly the Washington Post and NY Times, to isolate, humiliate and break Robin down. And how those outlets went along with it. Luckily she is a brave and tough player who did not back down.
